Dit schilderij geeft mijn impressie van een authentiek stukje veenlandschap in het Groene Hart. Koeien in (niet zomaar) een weiland bij Vinkeveen: Demmerik. Minstens 50 tinten groen, dus hoe spannend wil je het hebben ? Tussen al dat groen is het bijzonder kleurrijk. Vooraan in de berm prachtige bloemen, de koeien kunnen er niet bij….. Het stille water in de sloot wacht met spanning op de beroering door een dorstige koe of een hongerige blauwe of witte reiger.
In het weiland geen fabrieksgroen gras, maar een veelheid aan smaken en kleuren. De koeien voelen zich er prettig en leven ontspannen in elkaars omgeving. Kijk naar het licht dat met kleine wolkenschaduwen schijnt op het kleurrijke groen. Daarachter de bomen die het traject markeren van de vroegere spoorlijn Nieuwersluis – Haarlem. De treinen verdwenen en de bomen verschenen. Een deel van het traject is nu een prachtig wandelpad, dat onderdeel is van de Demmerikroute en de spoorbaanroute Wilnis-Vinkeveen.
Aan de horizon staat de indrukwekkende neogotische kruisbasiliek van Vinkeveen. Sinds 1883 is ‘de kathedraal van De Ronde Venen’ een ijkpunt in het landschap, maar ook bron van pijn. Pijn in het hoofd en in de portemonnee van veel gelovigen en bestuurders.
Boven de horizon de sluierbewolking waartussen de blauwe koepel zichtbaar wordt. Vanuit dat blauw en zelfs door de wolken komt het licht en de warmte waar je blij van wordt. Zo leef je mee met het Groene Hart.

Empathise with the Green Heart of Holland
This oilpainting shows my impression of an authentic part of the moorland landscape in the Green Heart of Holland. Cows in (not just by accident) a meadow near Vinkeveen: Demmerik.
For many generations of my family (Kruijswijk – Haring, Kruiswijk – van Eijk, Kruijswijk – Stoof, Kruiswijk – Eikelenboom, Kruiswijk – Verbrugge) this moorland was part of their life. It is already more than 130 years still the same (almost) unchanged scenery !
A scenery with at least 50 shades of green, so how exciting do you want it ? Between all that green it is particularly colorful. The front of the berm shows beautiful flowers, the cows can not get to it. …. The quiet water in the ditch eagerly await the turmoil by a thirsty cow or a hungry Blue or White Heron.
No ‘factory made’ green grass, but a multitude of flavors and colors. The cows feel pleasant and relaxed in their common life environment. Look to the light that shines with small shadows of the clouds on the colorful green.
The trees mark the route of the former railway line Nieuwersluis – Haarlem. When the trains disappeared, the trees popped up. Part of the route is now a beautiful hiking trail, which is part of the Demmerikroute and the Railway route Wilnis-Vinkeveen.
On the horizon is the impressive neo-Gothic cross basilica of Vinkeveen. Since 1883 is ‘ the Cathedral of the Ronde Venen ‘ a cardinal point in the landscape, but also source of pain. Pain in the head and in the pockets of many believers and politicians.
Above the horizon the veil of clouds to the Blue Dome is visible. From that blue and even through the clouds is the light and the heat: enough reasons to be happy. This is the way to empathise the Green Heart of Holland.
